The Doneger Group is a buying and merchandising service and creative director David Wolfe is its fashion scout, responsible for travelling the world and reporting on the more meaningful fashion and lifestyle trends that are out there.
It is not an easy task, Wolfe warns. "Before, fashion forecasting was a lot simpler. Thirty or 40 years ago, fashion forecasting was not too complex. It was elitist. Paris designers dominated the fashion world - what was 'in', whether a new shape or colour." Wolfe recalls that the fashion press used to focus on a designer's "new idea" and eventually a manufacturer's interpretation of that fashion arrived at department stores and specialty boutiques around the world.
For a start, says Wolfe, there will be no dominating influence. Trends are not what they used to be: "The sort of creative ideas that used to be [years ago] are now just flashes-in-the-pan. Literally with trends going and coming we are in an age where everything "simply goes". Whether you decide to wear your plaid western top, cowboy boots, or you decide to wear that neon tank from the 90's, today there is no limit on what you are allowed to and not allowed to wear.
What I love about this? Denim is classic, white tees never go out of style and there is always space for reinvention. As I sat on the subway today I realized how different people dressed from one style to another extreme and it was like a huge melting pot of styles and I abs. LOVED IT. Porque? because people are wearing what they feel like and what represents themselves. They are wear to express their selves in their own unique way. Whether you agree to disagree - Everything Goes is on my top list of 2010!
